Topic #286

Topic: Under what circumstances, if any, is it okay to break the law?

Her fingers hovered over the keys of the laptop, and she glanced back at Logan, a scowl fixed on her face. He looked back at her, not saying a word, an eyebrow raised at her. Her face scrunched up and she turned back to the computer with a huff. Pressing a button on the keyboard, the screen flashed with a list of names, ages and locations.

"There," she sighed, "the list of the kidnapped girls."

Logan's hand fell onto her shoulder, squeezing it gently, before leaning forward, his eyes scanning through it.

She had mixed emotions about this effort. They were breaking every law against them right now. Federal files, top secret... Even Professor Xavier had told her to stay out of it. But Logan wasn't going to take 'no' for an answer, not while there were Institute students involved.

She was going to be good, and listen to Xavier's unspoken warning, but Logan had baited her into it. She'd, of course, risen the bait when he'd snidely told her she wasn't doing it because she couldn't.

"You did good, kid," Logan smiled at her, and Kitty gave a half hearted smile back, knowing it was her first step in defiance against the Professor's requests - that wasn't childish and sulking - and could only wonder what the future held.

She cast a quick glance at Logan, who was pursuing the list of names again, and headed out of the room, knowing it was at least for a good cause. It had to be.

Word count: 268
